Everybody wants to work online nowadays! In all honesty, it’s the perfect time to do it. Teaching English online is one of the fastest growing markets out there. New online ESL companies pop up faster than Cinnabon Bakeries in strip malls. You might as well jump on the bandwagon and earn some money teaching English online from home. Why not?
As long as you have a smartphone, laptop, headset, and a good internet connection, you can teach English online with no problem.
Make sure you have a TEFL certification. Although not all online ESL companies require it, most of them do! It goes a long way when you are applying to teach English online. It shows that you have made an initiative to qualify yourself in the ESL field and you are ready to start teaching English online.
Teaching English online provides you with many choices. You can easily apply for many online ESL companies and they will usually provide lesson plans and material but if you find your own students to teach English online to, you can double the money by teaching something more specific.
Teach online English Debate classes-I did this and have six students per class. Three on each team and you can charge per student. That can make you up to $100+ an hour. I would suggest reading this if you are interested in finding your own students.
Teach online English TOEFL or IELTS classes-Many students want to study abroad and they need to pass certain tests in order to do so. The most common tests are the TOEFL and IELTS.
Teach online Business English-There are many companies now that have adults who want to learn and practice English. Most of them are business professionals so the market is widening for those potential clients. Of course, if you are hired through a company the pay will not be as good. If you can set up a Fiverr or Upwork and promote yourself as an Online Business English teacher, you can set your own price and time.

Teach English online:
Hujiang (CLOSED)
They have live audio and video lessons.
PAY for teaching English at Hujiang- $12 – $20 per hour depending on what kind of lesson it is. Obviously, audio lessons are lower but much easier and teachers are paid every two weeks.

UUabc (CLOSED)
Teach English online for UUabc. It’s an online teaching platform that caters specifically to children.
Teachers will be given all the classroom materials and lessons but you must get your own props for the class to make it engaging for the children.
Classes will be one-on-one or one-on-four so if you like smaller groups, this could be good for you.
PAY for teaching at UUabc- $15-$25 per hour
Teachers are paid monthly.
Online Teaching Requirements for UUabc
A professional teaching certificate (TEFL, TESOL, CELTA) is not required, but is certainly preferred.
BlingAbc (CLOSED)
Teach English online for Blingabc because the classes will vary in the number of students that are in class. Some teachers have said that they have had more than six in a class.
This is one of the few companies that has always been regarded by teachers as one of the higher platforms in regard to paying so maybe it’s worth a try.
PAY for teaching at blingabc-BlingABC’s pay rate can be up to $50 per hour, including base pay and additional incentives for high-performing teachers. There are additional incentives for teaching during high-demand times.
You will get paid once a month at Blingabc.

Voxy
Teach English online for Voxy.
Voxy’s clientele not only consists of corporations but also, universities, language schools, and new American citizens.
The platform has 24-hour administrative support for teachers and it also provides teachers with task-based lesson materials to use in the classroom.
PAY for teaching at voxy- $15 per hour
Also must attend an orientation. You can also earn extra money through the platform with certain incentives.

Live Lingua
Teach English online for Live Lingua because with Live Lingua, it will be one-on-one classes with students from around the world via Skype.
With Live Lingua, you must create your own classes and lesson plans. None of the materials will be provided by the company.
PAY for teaching at Live Lingua- an average of $20 per hour

Teaching Requirements for Live Lingua:
Golden Voice English (GVE)
Teach English online with Golden Voice English if you like teaching one-on-one. This platform is created for one-on-one classes with younger Chinese students.
They provide all content for the teachers and interactive content for the lessons. Previous teachers who have worked for the company claim that a lot of the material is engaging and interactive. So… that’s a plus.
PAY for teaching at Golden Voice English (GVE)- You can earn up to $20 an hour. I believe that’s with incentives. The base pay is going to be lower than that, I imagine.
They pay monthly.

*EnglishDom accepts non-native English teachers*
Teach English online for EnglishDom. This is a Ukrainian company that provides online English lessons for Russian students. All classes will usually be one-on-one and for around 50 minutes.
Students are encouraged to take 2-3 classes per week which gives you a good opportunity to build your schedule smoothly.
PAY for teaching at EnglishDom- $10 per hour for native speakers
Around $3 per hour for non-natives. 🙁
You do have an opportunity for bonuses each month for completing a certain number of classes.

They also look for teachers who can speak Russian.
Wonder Kids (Recently out of Business) :/
*Wonder Kids English accepts non-native English Teachers*
Teach English online for Wonder Kids because Wonder Kids is another Chinese company that provides English lessons for young learners.
Most classes will be one-on-one but it can go up to one-on-three.
Classes will be 45-60 minutes and all the lesson plans and materials will be provided from Wonder Kids.
Pay for Wonder Kids English- This one can vary depending on the lesson, however, teachers are paid $5 for each 30 minute trial lesson. For most English teachers, one-on-one lessons typically begin close to $16 per hour, and group classes start around $20 per hour.
Apparently, you can make even more per hour if you offer field specific classes.
Teachers will be paid monthly via PayPal or bank transfer.
Teaching Requirements for Wonder Kids English:
The company accepts applicants of all nationalities, so this is a great opportunity for teachers from all across the globe!

*Great opportunity for non-native speakers to teach English online*
Teach English online for Learnship because it’s a great platform that accepts a wide variety of teachers. I have heard it’s excellent for South Africans. It’s a great teaching program that shares cultures and provides corporate employees and teams to learn face-to-face online.
All materials will be provided for the teachers and they have a huge database of interactive materials that you can choose from to incorporate into your lessons. However, you will need to make sure that you prepare the lesson for your student’s ability but you will also need to assign them homework.
Pay for teaching at Learnship- You will probably start out making around $16 to $18 per hour with Learnship. Your pay may be a little bit higher if you have previous experience and foreign language skills.

If you have Russian language skills, Teach English online for Lingua Airlines. This is a Russian company that provides English lessons for children and adults. You can specialize your lessons in English or simply teach general English.
Teachers must create all of their own lesson plans and material.
Pay for teaching English at Lingua Airlines-
Typically between $10-$20 per hour.

Teach English online with Verbal Planet because this cool platform allows teachers to make their own prices and schedule. You will conduct your English lessons online via Skype with people from all around the world.

no requirements. It’s a great place for any online English teacher to start.
Rype App
*Non-native English speakers can teach for Rype App*
Teach English online for Rype App because this platform puts its focus on creating classes for adult students but teachers must provide and prepare their own lesson plans here.
Pay for teaching with Rype App-
I’m going to assume it low. The website didn’t specifically state the exact price per hour. Instead, it said that you can make around $2000 per month. I would bet that is only if you work a full 8 hour day. I could be wrong. if I was a gambling man, I’d put money on it.

Berlitz Virtual Classroom
*Berlitz Virtual Classroom allows you to teach multiple languages*
Teach English online with Berlitz Virtual Classroom because online teachers can teach English, French, Norwegian, German and Italian but you must be a native speaker for whatever language you intend to teach. Typically, classes will be one-on-one.
Pay for teaching online for Berlitz Virtual Classroom:
Around $7 per hour.

Teach English online for ALO7. This is another Chinese company that provides English lessons for young learners. All the content and material will be provided for the ESL teachers.
All of the new teachers will have an orientation that will get you up to date on how they operate and organize the classes so don’t worry too much about the rules before you start.
Pay for teaching English online for ALO7:
Teachers can make between $17 and $22 per hour but this is including base pay and incentives for performance and schedule stability. Teachers receive payments monthly.
Requirements for teaching for ALO7:
Englishunt
Teach English Online for Englishunt because this company offers multiple ways for the student to take classes. They can have phone lessons, video lessons, and output assignments.
The classes are for Korean students and they will follow the schedule of their school year so it’s best to look into your availability first.

They start teachers at $14 per hour. Payments are received monthly.
