If you don’t find anything suitable on this list, don’t forget to check out the rest of the articles. We have loads of lists compiled with all the online teaching opportunities HERE

The Reality of Online Teaching right now

My wonderful teaching friends and companions… We all know the market is rather saturated as of now but don’t worry. As you can see, more and more companies are coming out each month and replacing the Chinese market. Online teaching jobs are all over the world.

However, there is an unfortunate reality. Most companies that are replacing the Chinese ones are not paying nearly as well. Some are decent but you will stumble across others that are straight-up exploiting teachers like internet slaves to the business.

These kinds of cheap business tactics are what’s causing the industry to crash in competitive pricing. Once you’ve been around long enough, you’ll soon notice that a lot of these online companies treat it like it’s a used car dealership as they sling recruiters through Facebook groups offering peanuts for pay to desperate teachers trying to find work.

It’s a struggle now but there are still some opportunities out there.

What you need to teach English online

TEFL Certificate

Remember… Native speaker or non native speaker, having a TEFL certificate will always put you ahead in the industry. Even if a company doesn’t require a TEFL, teachers with a TEFL will generally be moved to the front of the list of candidates because they have proved to have put forth the effort to become more qualified.

Good Internet speed

Some companies have requirements for how fast your internet speed should be in order to work with them. Make sure you have a stable and reliable internet connection with a quiet workspace around you.

Create a self-introduction video

Many companies require a self-introduction video for first-time teachers of the company. This is becoming more and more regular for online teaching companies nowadays. It’s important to remember that even if they don’t require a video you can still send a quality intro video with your CV to increase your chances of being hired. Just make sure it’s professional on all accounts.

Here are some of the things you should mention

  • Your full name
  • Where you’re from and your educational background
  • Why do you love teaching English?
  • Your relevant experiences
  • Past teaching jobs, experiences with student age, subject, etc.

Tips for creating an efficient introduction video

  • Speak clearly and don’t speak too quickly
  • Dress professionally and speak with confidence and conviction
  • Show energy and passion (This lets them know how you may be seen in a classroom environment)
  • Decorate the area behind you (Have a decent classroom vibe for aesthetics)
  • Make sure the vid has proper lighting
  • Record in a quiet place

My Academy

Native Speakers

I found this company promoting in ESL Facebook groups.  They are looking for teachers from the United States and Canada. You must have a BA degree and a TEFL. They claim to have regular students and not a booking system.

The pay is $8 – $10 for a 25-minute class.

To apply: They require you to send your CV, recorded class video, and a self-intro video to emyacademy@hotmail.com

Talk Lab

Native Speakers

This company seems to be focusing mostly on IELTS speaking classes for adult learners. They require all candidates to be native speakers. All lesson materials will be provided to teachers. They claim to have regular students with stable incomes for their teachers. Pay will be around $12 per hour.

To apply: Send CV and intro video to jenniferzhang066@gmail.com

Name the email: “your country, your name, your Skype ID, the number of teaching hours you can render per month”

Blue Sky Education LLC

Native Speakers

They are hiring experienced educators for a startup company. I believe they will officially open in November but they are getting the teachers hired and ready beforehand. You will choose your own hours and your type of English classes. You will also choose the prices and lengths of your classes and the company will take a 15% fee.

To Apply: email blueskyeducationcooperative@gmail.com

JP English

Non Natives accepted

This company provides 25-minute classes to Japanese learners. All classes will be conducted via Skype. If I’m being honest, I think they will have some pretty despicable pay. They claim to pay up to $800 per month but I also read that they want teachers to work 8 hour days. That’s going to be a pretty low hourly rate. But if you really need a job, you can apply.

Donnish Edu

Non Natives Accepted

This company does not mention the price they pay per hour on the page. They only mention that they teach students from all around the world and all teachers are welcome. They provide teacher training and support.

Apply here

Amadeoo

Non Natives Accepted

This company hires natives and non natives for teaching English online. They do not require a degree or a TEFL but they do mention that candidates with both will be moved to the front of the list. Also, all teaching materials are provided for teachers. They have no mention of hourly rates on the application page though. You must dedicate at least 10 hours per week to teach here.

Amphy

Non Natives Accepted

This company seems to be one of those create your own profile types. You can set your own rates and teach almost any subject. The platform will take a fee of 19% of all classes. You create a teacher profile, then make a syllabus, then you go live. They will contact you each time a class with you has been booked.

Best Teacher

Non Natives Accepted

Here is another Japan-based platform for English teachers. You will be teaching simple English classes to Japanese learners via Skype. They accept teachers from across the globe. The only mention of pay on the page states this,

“The job is well-paid and your pay reflects your commitment. Your total monthly payment sum will be calculated based on the number of messages you have replied to and corrected as well as the number of Skype lessons you conducted.”

CC Class

Non Natives Accepted

This company is based in the Philippines and conducts classes for Chinese learners. They will book classes for you and accept teachers from across the globe. I wouldn’t suggest this job unless you’re living in the Philippines. The pay is incredibly low but many teachers from the Philippines don’t seem to mind. It’s around $4 per hour.

Core English

Non Natives Accepted

This company has some potential for teachers if everything they state on their website holds true. The company claims to accept teachers from all over the world. They also claim to pay from $15 – $20 per hour. There are little to no requirements. They seem to accept teachers with no degree, TEFL, or experience. However, they state that having all three is preferred and will certainly heighten your chances.

Eigox

Non Natives Accepted

This company also caters to Japanese learners. All lessons are taught via Skype. Each lesson will be approximately 25 minutes and have flexibles schedules. They pay Natives $10 per hour and Non natives $4 per hour 🙁 Salary is paid via PayPal.

KK Talkee (CLOSED)

Non Natives Accepted

This is a company that provides lessons for Chinese students. Somehow this company has made it past the shutdowns which means they probably have headquarters in another country. All classes will be 1 on 1. They state that their pay ranges between $15- $20 per hour.
